How did we do in Round Five?

Well, once again, we lost everything we bet this week. We are sure there is a lesson in here somewhere. But, as we finished the whole tournament around twenty bucks up (thanks to week three and Rugby World Cup ‘95), the lesson is probably to play rugby video games and bet on the outcomes of real games based on the outcome of digital ones. Yes, we are sure that is it.

Review of our Week Five Predictions

We review how our final week of Six Nation predictions went

Last week The East Terrace again bravely told the rugby world exactly how the weekend’s action in the Six Nations would pan out (click here to read our round five predictions). This time we used a modern piece of computer software: Rugby Challenge 2006 from Ubisoft. And once again it all went the shape of a pear.

England v Ireland

We bet on O’Driscoll for the first try and Borthwick for the last. We got the first one wrong but, for a brief glorious moment, we thought we might have the second one correct. As Borthwick had never scored for England before, we were delighted to see him crash over for a try in the second-half. Alas, the bookie escaped a payout as Ireland mounted a cheeky comeback. I hope you Irish fans out there feel sorry for us! Rugby Challenge 2006 got the game’s outcome wrong as well.

Result: We lost both bets.

Wales v France

Other than predicating a second-half French comeback, this was dismally off the mark from the real match result.

Result: Yup, we lost everything on this one.

Italy v Scotland

Why even go into it? We lost everything. Although we were so close on guessing an Italian win. Hey, it’s clutching straws time!

Result: You guessed it, we lost all our bets on this one. Putting us another €4 down.

Conclusions for Round Five Well, that is the end of our great Six Nations experiment for this year. To be honest, it bombed big time. How could twenty year-old computer games let us down? We trusted them.

However, as England won our digital Six Nations, at least English fans have something to be happy about. In fact, check back here in a few days when we reveal the details of our trophy presentation to real England head coach Andy Robinson.
